Urbino's historic centre, declared UNESCO World Heritage in 1998, is a single Renaissance masterpiece: the Palazzo Ducale of Federico da Montefeltro, the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche where Piero della Francesca and Raphael speak to each other, the steep medieval streets where the painter of the Sistine Madonna was born and raised.
